BY MICHAEL TINGSAGER

Five minutes each week that could change your leadership and business forever.

LATEST EPISODE

I was so excited to have Maverick Deepak Ohri, Chief Happiness Officer at lebua Hotels and Resorts back on the show.

We dive into his new book, 'A Bridge Not Too Far', and how he has applied the principles in the book to become a better human and leader. We also discuss the power of mentorship and how to find a great mentor. We also have a longer discussion about the reality of the great resignation and quiet quitting and how hospitality businesses can respond to this.

QUOTE I'M REFLECTING ON

BOOK I'M READING

This book was recommended to me some years ago by my good friend John Mason, Founder of Sideways, and I have just re-read it. There are lots of learnings on how to improve your ability to get better as an individual and team by just asking. Wayne Baker has done deep research into the importance of asking for help and how it can lead to greater success. He explores why some people have difficulty asking for help, and provides some strong tools for overcoming this, along with stories about how organisations use these tools to share knowledge faster and better.

MINI-UNIVERSITY

β€œThe Strength of the team is each individual member.

The strength of each member is the team.”
- Phil Jackson

1+1 = 3

The power of synergy.

Great leaders understand and leverage this.

When you get this right, trust builds, great productivity follows and then results and impact that you could not even imagine.

People often do not know their true talents and take them for granted.

It’s the job of the leader to help them unlock these.

How to do that?

First, help your team to understand how each individual's role improves the team's performance and results.

Then ensure that people have responsibility for areas and projects that utilise their strengths.

Let individuals train other team members in their unique powers.
We are better together when we do what we are best at.

Are you leveraging your and your team's strengths to achieve better performance and impact?

Hospitality Mavericks

by Michael Tingsager

We wanted to show there was another way to build and lead businesses. So Hospitality Mavericks was born. We wanted to gather together the world’s Mavericks who do things differently from the norm. They are leaders from all walks of life who have shown and proven that there is a better way forward without cashing out on their values; ripping off their people, community and planet. That was over ten years ago. Since then we've worked with and interviewed more than 200 leaders, thinkers and experts on the best way to build a business that makes a positive impact on all stakeholders. We are the home to impactful leaders that KNOW and DO things in a better way. A network for those seeking a different path. So don’t just be like the others! Dare to Be Different ✊

Wise selfishness vs foolish selfishness.Last week, I was captivated by a Netflix documentary featuring the late Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama titled "Joy." Here, they discuss how to find joy and happiness during troubled times. At some point in the interview, they discuss the need to care for yourself without hurting others. They state that you must take care of yourself, or you can not survive or be helpful to others. But caring for oneself should not hurt others. The Daila Lama brings up...

The Power of Positive Energy.None of us can expect to get through life and work without obstacles. Life and work do not always go our way.But that does not mean you can’t navigate it better. You need more POSITIVE ENERGY.In my work observing what Maverick leaders KNOW and DO, I have found that they see positive energy as THE fuel for driving themselves and their organisation to greatness. When I talk about positive energy, I do not think about the rah-rah kind. I think about:- Optimism.-...
