Slow down to go far...

In the bustling landscape of entrepreneurship and life, finding the silence and solitude one needs to think clearly can be challenging.

In the last few years, I've recognised its profound impact on my life and work.

Not only when it comes to coping now but also to ensure I can keep going.

Silence is often overlooked in our fast-paced world.

It holds the key to bettering ourselves and enhancing our leadership.

When we neglect this vital space, the quality of our decisionsβ€”across all facets of lifeβ€”starts to suffer.

It's a domino effect; without clarity from silence, mistakes are made, often with far-reaching consequences.

When I talk about silence, it is not only like going on a retreat far away and not talking with anyone.

I advocate for a form of silence that can be woven into the fabric of our daily lives.

A silence that recharges the mind and soul, helping us transition from a state of busyness to one of calm readiness for the challenges that lie ahead.

Silence helps you see the world from a fresh perspective and rethink your approach to solving the challenges.

I have struggled with this and still struggle with it, but I have found a way to create some structure and discipline that helps me move forward daily.

I'll be the first to admit that finding this balance is a continual challenge.

Transitioning from a state of constant activity to one of peaceful reflection requires structure and discipline.

I work hard to create moments of silence in my daily routines, and the benefits have been impactful.

Here are 3 of my daily hacks:
- Incorporated silence time into both morning and evening routines.
- Build silence time into my weekly schedule.
- I do walks and runs with no inputs - I have no podcasts in my ears or phone in my hand.

I’m still learning, and I would love to hear your hacks for carving out time of silence daily.

Hospitality Mavericks

by Michael Tingsager

We wanted to show there was another way to build and lead businesses. So Hospitality Mavericks was born. We wanted to gather together the world’s Mavericks who do things differently from the norm. They are leaders from all walks of life who have shown and proven that there is a better way forward without cashing out on their values; ripping off their people, community and planet. That was over ten years ago. Since then we've worked with and interviewed more than 200 leaders, thinkers and experts on the best way to build a business that makes a positive impact on all stakeholders. We are the home to impactful leaders that KNOW and DO things in a better way. A network for those seeking a different path. So don’t just be like the others! Dare to Be Different ✊

Wise selfishness vs foolish selfishness.Last week, I was captivated by a Netflix documentary featuring the late Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama titled "Joy." Here, they discuss how to find joy and happiness during troubled times. At some point in the interview, they discuss the need to care for yourself without hurting others. They state that you must take care of yourself, or you can not survive or be helpful to others. But caring for oneself should not hurt others. The Daila Lama brings up...

The Power of Positive Energy.None of us can expect to get through life and work without obstacles. Life and work do not always go our way.But that does not mean you can’t navigate it better. You need more POSITIVE ENERGY.In my work observing what Maverick leaders KNOW and DO, I have found that they see positive energy as THE fuel for driving themselves and their organisation to greatness. When I talk about positive energy, I do not think about the rah-rah kind. I think about:- Optimism.-...

An organisation is only as good….…as the worst behaviour it accepts.Often, this group is a small fraction of the team that sets the tone for the rest.Their actions and attitude can if left unchecked.Significantly influence the organisation's culture and performance.Good or bad.The leader's job is:- Setting clear expectations around behaviour and performance.- Providing consistent feedback and support.- Courageously addressing behaviours that don’t align with our values. To ensure that you can...
