TIME FOR A TIME OUT

What a year it's been - again!

The mental load has been insane this year.

I need a time out now with my fabulous family - how about you?

For years now, we have been dealing with enormous disruption and uncertainties.

No wonder we all are a bit exhausted.
โ€‹
But we are heading into my favourite time of the year.

It's the one time every year when almost everyone goes into a slower mode.

You deserve a pat on the back for your hard work making the world a better place daily in these challenging times.

We are super grateful you have been tuning in and supporting the Hospitality Mavericks Podcast Show, the bonus episodes, reading our newsletters etc.

I send a huge thank you to all our amazing guests who, over the years have shared their insights and wisdom with the world.

We will keep sharing new episodes during the holidays for you to enjoy and get inspired from - we have some good stuff coming your way.

Now it's time to take a walk, read a book, cook and eat, re-awaken your dreams, reflect and spend time with loved ones.

We are back again in 2024.

Happy Holidays, my Mavericks!

HELP OUR FRIENDS

Our friends over at Sustainable Kitchen Consultants are leading the development of the Sustainability and World Cuisine curriculum for the new London Food School, with a goal of embedding Sustainability into the Hospitality curriculum, and developing specific modules that cover different World Cuisine cooking techniques, principles, key ingredients, and sustainability traditions, etc.

The new London Food School project is part of a broader investment programme via City of London to invest in developing East London, including a relocation of Londonโ€™s food markets in the next couple of years - e.g. Spitalfields, New Covent Garden, which will create an exciting โ€˜Centre for all things Foodโ€™. You can read more about it here.

As part of the work that Sustainable Kitchen Consultants are doing, they are piloting the curriculum, and offering free placements for businesses to send staff to learn, and also provide feedback on the content and delivery. This is your opportunity to have your teams gain valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities for Sustainability in the context of the food sector, as well as shape the training with your valuable feedback.

Complete this Digital Survey for your chance to have 2 x staff placements attend the Sustainability for Food sector Pilot training sessions being held early next year. Open to any business in the food sector, from Hospitality to Manufacturing and New Product Development.

Hospitality Mavericks

by Michael Tingsager

We wanted to show there was another way to build and lead businesses. So Hospitality Mavericks was born. We wanted to gather together the worldโ€™s Mavericks who do things differently from the norm. They are leaders from all walks of life who have shown and proven that there is a better way forward without cashing out on their values; ripping off their people, community and planet. That was over ten years ago. Since then we've worked with and interviewed more than 200 leaders, thinkers and experts on the best way to build a business that makes a positive impact on all stakeholders. We are the home to impactful leaders that KNOW and DO things in a better way. A network for those seeking a different path. So donโ€™t just be like the others! Dare to Be Different โœŠ

Wise selfishness vs foolish selfishness.Last week, I was captivated by a Netflix documentary featuring the late Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama titled "Joy." Here, they discuss how to find joy and happiness during troubled times. At some point in the interview, they discuss the need to care for yourself without hurting others. They state that you must take care of yourself, or you can not survive or be helpful to others. But caring for oneself should not hurt others. The Daila Lama brings up...

The Power of Positive Energy.None of us can expect to get through life and work without obstacles. Life and work do not always go our way.But that does not mean you canโ€™t navigate it better. You need more POSITIVE ENERGY.In my work observing what Maverick leaders KNOW and DO, I have found that they see positive energy as THE fuel for driving themselves and their organisation to greatness. When I talk about positive energy, I do not think about the rah-rah kind. I think about:- Optimism.-...
