πŸŽ§πŸŽ™ Maverick Talk πŸš€πŸŽ§ - All you have to do is ASK!

Published 3 months agoΒ β€’Β 2 min read

It is not how many books you read…

…but the ability to implement the ideas from the book to enhance your life and business.

I used to read over 40 books a year.

But retained any of the information and saw a small impact.

So, I established a rule: before starting a new book, I had to write at least five to ten bullet points summarising the key takeaways from the current one.

As a result, I started to read fewer books, but I learned more and saw improvements!

This year, I've decided to revisit books that have significantly impacted me over the years.

I will write a summary of each book and write down three practical actions on how the ideas from the book can improve my life and business in the short term.

I am going to absorb them, distil them, and implement these ideas in my life.

What is your approach to reading and implementing books into your life and business?

P.S. If you're curious about what kind of books I have been reading, visit my reading list here.

This is originally from a LinkedIn post I did - check out the fantastic conversation here.

  • The power of "Asking" - why this is one of the most transformative skills you can learn this year.
  • Understand why people struggle to ask for help and how to overcome this obstacle.
  • How do you build a "culture of asking" in your organisations, and how can it transform organisational performance?

QUOTE I REFLECT ON

BOOK I HAVE BEEN READING

"Effortless" was one of the best books I read last year. It made me reflect, and "Effortless" has become my word of the year.

What does Effortless Mean? It's the ultimatum state for impact - I’m in a state where I’m physically rested and emotionally unburdened. I’m completely present, mentally energised, attentive and focused on what matters most in that moment - it's all done with ease and fun.

Key learnings from this book: We glorify the idea of working hard.

If you want to achieve outstanding results, you have to sweat and blood during the process.

We are used to saying things like, β€œ

It’s not going to be easy, but itβ€˜ll be worth it”.

That’s not entirely true.

Why couldn’t we work efficiently and still have the results we want?

Working hard isn’t efficient.

What matters most is to work smart.

Let me know what you learned from reading this book.

Hospitality Mavericks

by Michael Tingsager

We wanted to show there was another way to build and lead businesses. So Hospitality Mavericks was born. We wanted to gather together the world’s Mavericks who do things differently from the norm. They are leaders from all walks of life who have shown and proven that there is a better way forward without cashing out on their values; ripping off their people, community and planet. That was over ten years ago. Since then we've worked with and interviewed more than 200 leaders, thinkers and experts on the best way to build a business that makes a positive impact on all stakeholders. We are the home to impactful leaders that KNOW and DO things in a better way. A network for those seeking a different path. So don’t just be like the others! Dare to Be Different ✊

Wise selfishness vs foolish selfishness.Last week, I was captivated by a Netflix documentary featuring the late Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama titled "Joy." Here, they discuss how to find joy and happiness during troubled times. At some point in the interview, they discuss the need to care for yourself without hurting others. They state that you must take care of yourself, or you can not survive or be helpful to others. But caring for oneself should not hurt others. The Daila Lama brings up...

The Power of Positive Energy.None of us can expect to get through life and work without obstacles. Life and work do not always go our way.But that does not mean you can’t navigate it better. You need more POSITIVE ENERGY.In my work observing what Maverick leaders KNOW and DO, I have found that they see positive energy as THE fuel for driving themselves and their organisation to greatness. When I talk about positive energy, I do not think about the rah-rah kind. I think about:- Optimism.-...
